To Whom It May Concern,
Shira Destinie Jones was a student of mine in a graduate course in the Philosophy of Education at Rivier College circa 2001. This letter is in strong support of her application in a doctoral program or position of her choice.
I have taught over 400 graduate students in the above referenced class and Destinie was along the top five “all time students. She has the intellectual capacity, that is clear, but her additional desire to learn and to work for social justice creates a fire in her that is appealing and influential to others. The course focused on the politics, economics, and social-moral philosophy of education and focused on fairly intense student small group work answering questions I developed. Destinie excelled with this approach, and often exhibited a philosophically sophisticated understanding of the material that was way above the average reception from my students.
If I can answer any other questions you may have about Destinie Jones, please do not hesitate in contacting me.
Regards,
Christy Hammer, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Sociology and Education
(11 years later, I still appreciate her letter as among the first to make me realize that I could potentially help others.
